What JIS Z 2243 Covers
The standard defines the Brinell test in the JIS system, including its use on portable testers for large parts that cannot be brought to a bench machine. A ball indenter is pressed into the surface and the indentation is measured to give the hardness number.
Stationary and Portable Testing
Bench machines give the most controlled result, while portable testers extend Brinell testing to in-place inspection of large castings, forgings, and structures. The method addresses both so results stay comparable.
