ISO 7500-1 defines how to verify and classify the force-measuring system of static uniaxial tension and compression testing machines. It is the reference every metals lab uses to prove its machines apply and indicate force within tolerance. For the full method, classes, and how it supports tensile testing, see our detailed page for ISO 7500-1, or talk with our team about verifying your machine.
What It Verifies
A calibrated force-proving instrument is applied across the machine range, and the deviation from the reference force determines accuracy, repeatability, and resolution. The result assigns the force range to a machine class from 0.5 to 3.
Why the Class Matters
Tensile methods such as ISO 6892-1 expect a force system verified to a stated class, so a current certificate is what makes strength results defensible. The verified class defines the range available for accredited work.
Reading the Designation
Cited as ISO 7500-1:YYYY. Confirm the edition before setting verification intervals and acceptance criteria.
Related Standards
ISO 376 calibrates the force-proving instruments used here, ISO 9513 covers extensometer calibration, and ASTM E4 is the ASTM force-verification practice.
