GOST Standards

GOST standards are the interstate and national standards used in Russia and other CIS countries, maintained by Rosstandart. They cover a broad range of materials and mechanical test methods.

Why GOST standards matter in testing

A GOST method fixes specimen shapes, apparatus, and procedure for acceptance and quality control across the region, including tensile, impact, and bend testing of metals.

What GOST standards cover

GOST includes metals, plastics, rubber, and construction materials, with methods for tensile, compression, flexural, and pendulum impact testing.

How to read a GOST designation

GOST designations use a number and a two-digit year:

Part Example Meaning
Prefix GOST Interstate / national standard
Number 9454 Sequential standard number (Charpy impact of metals)
Year -78 Year of issue (here, 1978)
