GB/T 231.2 — Brinell hardness testing machine verification & calibration

← Back to all standards

GB/T 231.2 is the Chinese national standard for verifying and calibrating Brinell hardness testing machines used to determine Brinell hardness. It confirms machine performance so that Brinell results stay traceable and comparable. To verify a Brinell tester or specify one, talk with our team.

What GB/T 231.2 Verifies

The standard checks the test forces, the ball indenter, and the optical measuring system used to read the indentation diameter, along with the overall machine performance confirmed against certified reference blocks.

Direct and Indirect Checks

Machine verification uses two methods together:

  • Direct: checks of applied forces, indenter condition, and the measuring system.
  • Indirect: testing certified Brinell reference blocks and comparing readings against their certified values.

Why It Matters

Brinell testing is common on castings, forgings, and larger sections, where a reliable machine is essential for correct acceptance. A current GB/T 231.2 verification is the record that keeps Brinell data defensible.
