What EN 12697-23 Measures

The indirect tensile test compresses a cylindrical asphalt specimen across its diameter, creating tension across the vertical plane. The peak load gives the indirect tensile strength, a key indicator of asphalt cracking resistance.

How the Test Is Run

A cylindrical specimen is loaded diametrically through loading strips at a controlled rate until it splits, and the indirect tensile strength is calculated from the peak load and specimen dimensions.
