DIN EN ISO 9513 is the German adoption of ISO 9513, the standard for calibrating and classifying the extensometer systems used to measure strain in uniaxial testing of metals. The technical content matches the ISO version; the DIN EN designation is what German and EU labs cite. To match an extensometer class to your reporting needs, talk with our team.
What It Calibrates
Known displacements from a reference device are applied over the extensometer gauge length, and the response determines error, resolution, and class. Tighter classes are required for proof-strength and modulus measurement; wider classes suit larger strains.
Why the DIN EN Designation Is Used
German and European quality systems reference DIN EN ISO 9513 rather than the bare ISO number. A current calibration to this designation is what makes strain-based results, especially under strain-rate control in ISO 6892-1, defensible in that market.
Reading the Designation
Cited as DIN EN ISO 9513:YYYY. Confirm the edition, since it follows revisions of the underlying ISO standard.
Related Standards
ISO 9513 is the base international standard, DIN EN ISO 7500-1 verifies the machine force system, and ASTM E83 is the ASTM practice for extensometer verification.
