Status and Replacement
DIN 51306 is no longer maintained. Pendulum impact machine verification for metallic materials is now handled by the current Charpy verification standards, which cover direct geometry checks and indirect checks with reference test pieces.
What to Use Instead
For a defensible, up-to-date verification, use the current standards rather than the withdrawn document:
- DIN EN ISO 148-2 for the German and European verification of Charpy pendulum machines.
- ISO 148-2 for the international machine-verification method.
- ISO 148-3 for the certified reference test pieces used in indirect checks.
Why It Still Comes Up
Older drawings, procedures, and quality records may still cite DIN 51306. When that happens, the practical step is to map the legacy requirement onto the current Charpy verification standards and document the equivalence.
