DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung) is Germany’s national standards body and a member of both ISO and CEN. DIN documents are widely referenced in engineering and materials work, and many are aligned with EN and ISO.

Why DIN standards matter in testing

DIN standards define materials, specimen geometry, and test procedures used throughout German and European industry. A well-known example is DIN 50125, which specifies tensile specimen shapes and dimensions.

How to read a DIN designation

A DIN number may be purely national or an adoption of EN / ISO:
