ASTM E139 describes test methods for constant-load creep and stress-rupture testing of metallic materials at constant temperature, characterizing how metals deform over time under sustained load and heat. To match this to your program, talk with our team.
What ASTM E139 Covers
Creep and rupture testing holds a specimen under constant tensile load at elevated temperature and records how it slowly deforms and, ultimately, fails. It characterizes long-term high-temperature behaviour for turbines, boilers, and pressure equipment.
How the Test Is Run
A specimen is loaded to a fixed stress and held at a controlled temperature for extended periods, from hours to thousands of hours. Extension is monitored over time, and rupture life and creep rate are reported.
Preparing Specimens
Threaded or shouldered specimens suited to hot grips and long-duration furnaces are required, with careful alignment to avoid bending over long tests. To scope a creep-testing setup, request a quote.
