What ASTM E139 Covers

Creep and rupture testing holds a specimen under constant tensile load at elevated temperature and records how it slowly deforms and, ultimately, fails. It characterizes long-term high-temperature behaviour for turbines, boilers, and pressure equipment.

How the Test Is Run

A specimen is loaded to a fixed stress and held at a controlled temperature for extended periods, from hours to thousands of hours. Extension is monitored over time, and rupture life and creep rate are reported.

Preparing Specimens
